MacDailyNews App Reviews

I expected better

Love the site, hate the app. Ive had the app since the first day it dropped, its always been weak.

Stay clear of this App...

Weak at best. Very plain and needs a major UI overhaul. Content very childs like. Very basic design. No iPhone 5 support and this is a Mac blog site? Shame.

Slow slow slow.

If you are looking for a way to describe this app "slow" comes to mind. I was going to say "jumps out" but that would be way too fast. The web site is slow but this app wins in the lack of speed category. And another thing did I mention that this app is slow? The only thing speedy about this app is how quickly I got rid of it.

Great revamp

Overall the new app is leaps and bounds better than the old version. The only improvement that is needed is to allow videos within stories to be watched in landscape mode rather than only in portrait mode. Other than this issue everything else is working great. Good job.

Crashing in iOS 8

Please fix promptly this time????

I need my news

You had a 5 now a 1 I need "my daily fix" hurry get it fixed!!!

Crashing since iOS8

Title self explanatory - even got a response back from the webmaster who sent me a copy of the article that crashed - well a lot of them do... So if Im lucky 10 times to read one thing - dunno if nobody can fix it or nobody really cares to fix it but anyways whatever

Weak

Totally useless after ios8. Pretty weak effort for a group that is endlessly critical of other companies who perform less than perfectly.

App crashing after ios 8.02 upgrade

Please MDN, release an update to fix this problem.

FIX IT!

You had a great app and now it keeps CRASHING! Its been 3 damn weeks since iOS8 came out, get on it. Pathetic.

Great content, hate the app

You would think an app that is all about Apple could create an app that actually works. I still get push notification on my iPads but not my iPhone. I cant seem to post comment on any of Apple devices. The content is great but arrives later than some other sites or Apps. If it was not for all the quantity of Apple news in one location I delete the app. Please fix and maybe update the look.

Apple Watch Notifications

iOS 8 provided notifications on AWatch. iOS 9 not so much. It is great as a notification on the watch. Wish I knew why it is no longer available.

Amateurish

The app is up to version 4 and one of the big "features" MDN has put in it is Landscape Rotation on iPhone, for nested comments. Really, this is a web app, and not a sophisticated one at all. I should be able to read nested comments either Portrait or Landscape but once you get 4 or 5 comments down, it becomes a vertical string of one or two words per line and virtually impossible to read. This is 2016. We are using smartphones. This is a poor excuse for an app on a smartphone. I know of plenty of web apps that can display nested comments that are easily readable. This one should be no different. For all of the sass the MDN editors have, and the ads I see that support MDN, I expect a much much better viewing experience.

What happened?!?!?!

When this app stops kicking me to the App Store when I havent clicked anything, Ill give it 5 stars again. I understand the need for ads, but this is incredibly annoying!!!!!! Getting kicked out to the App Store has gotten me so p***ed that I came back to write again how absurdly annoying it is. Especially because when you hit the "back to macdailynews" button, it only loads a blank page. If its not fixed soon, Ill just end up deleting the App.

Notifications Stopped Working

Several weeks ago, push MDN notifications stopped working on both my iPhone and iPad. Please fix.

Ads Have Made the App Miserable to Use

The number of ads is completely unreasonable. In general, ads are making the entire web surfing experience unusable. This app is now the worst Ive seen due to intrusive ads. Please tell me this is not the future!

Latest version

Used to read MacDaileyNews everyday. Not now!!! Dont waste your time. Just use Safari and News Block.

Ridiculous Ads

There are so many ads that they constantly load the entire time youre reading the article. Even after youve read the entire article and want to leave a comment,it still pops hte keyboard down and is designed to get you to accidentally press the ads while youre trying to type on the keyboard. They also have had a bad plague lately of ads that just redirect the entire page without clicking on anything, and foce you to view some ad about how you won an iPhone or vacation >:( MacDailyNews are the worst app developers and the worst kind of journalists you will ever find because of their unacceptable "advertising" practices. Also, even if they removed all the ads, I cant login to leave comments like I used to be able to do, I have to enter my name and email every time. Pressing a notifications doenst take you to the article you selected, it just opens the app. And that is when youre lucky enough to even get notifications. Once in a while theyll stop for like a month, so I just say oh well and stop reading it at all until they fix the issue. ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Fix it!

Poorly implemented ads

MacDailyNews is great, and you would think that their app would be of acceptable quality, but it absolutely is not. The need for revenue from ads is understandable, but the terrible technical implementation in this app is astounding. The ads get in the way of my finger when attempting t scroll, they will obstruct the first paragraph of article text, they randomly take over the app and go full screen without a way to exit, and they will randomly pop me out to the App Store with no user interaction. Honestly, if I didnt know that I was on iOS, I would have said that this app was malware. I dont understand how an ad system could be so poorly implemented for so long. And why doesnt MacDailyNews set up an ad-free tier that I can pay for? I would pay for that! Also, major functionality gripe: when I get a news notification for a specific story on this app, then I tap on that notification, my expectation is that I will be taken to that story. That is not what happens, I am simply taken to the main screen of the app, where I then have to manually trigger the app to load new stories, then find the story I wanted, then tap on it (which then submits me to the ad-based torture described above). Bad form MacDailyNews...I thought you were better than this.

Adds and pop ups have made he app unusable.

Used this app all the time. Now I cant use it at all because it forces me out of the app to the App Store and opening windows within the app to adds.
